From bluesy rock to brutal metal, the DOD Gunslinger can handle it all. This MOSFET-style distortion effect keeps any single notes perfectly discernible and is particularly responsive, meaning that the harder you strum, you more distortion you get - and vice versa. Meanwhile, the built-in MOSFET circuit guarantees staged clipping, resulting in that familiar, overdrive tube amp-style sound framed by loads of harmonics.
The DOD Gunslinger: True Bypass and Increased Headroom
In terms of controls, you get a Gain pot for setting the input volume and degree of distortion, a level pot for dialling in the master volume, and a set of low/high controls for boosting or cutting these frequency ranges as needed. Housed in a lightweight yet sturdy DOD-style unit, the Gunslinger and can be powered using a 9V or an 18V power supply, where the second option gets you more headroom. Also, since it's a True Bypass pedal, this stompbox doesn't colour your clean sound when it's switched off. A blue LED indicator lets you know if it's on or not.

Che cos'è la funzione True Bypass?
I musicisti sono molto selettivi nella scelta di chitarre e amplificatori. Dopotutto questi strumenti hanno un ruolo fondamentale nella creazione del sound. L'aggiunta di pedali effetti può rendere il suono meno limpido. Quando un chitarrista spegne il pedale effetti, deve essere certo che questo non produca rumori indesiderati o modifichi il carattere unico del suo sound. In un pedale True Bypass il segnale passa attraverso il pedale spento senza subire modifiche.

Aangenaam veelzijdige Distortion.
Denk een beetje aan een Distortion+ met wat extra knoppen.
Behoorlijk wat gain zonder echt uit de bocht te vliegen.
Op de lagere gain settings levert dit pedaal een prettige "Hot Overdrive sound".
Ook inzetbaar als booster, want deze jonge gaat behoorlijk hard.
Wel belangrijk om te weten het pedaal heeft een duidelijke "mid bump"!
Dit pedaal stampt dwars door de mix en is dus niet per definitie universeel inzetbaar.
Wanneer je al een mid-heavy sound hebt, kan een beetje te veel van het goede worden.
De Low en High regelaars werken prettig.
Zonder overgevoelig te zijn bieden ze een behoorlijk ruim regelbereik.
En zeker belangrijk, met de knoppen op 12 uur klinkt het prima.
De bouwkwaliteit is zoals je van DOD kunt verwachten, lekker stevig.
Zwaar genoeg om als gelegenheidswapen te dienen, niet dat dat de bedoeling is natuurlijk.
Het enige punt van kritiek dat ik zo snel kan verzinnen is het klotige blauwe ledje.
Wat is dat toch met die fabrikanten van nu met hun oogverblindende blauwe shit?
Wanneer je op een half donker podium naar dit pedaal kijkt nadat je het hebt ingeschakeld, verwacht dan niet dat je zonder lasbril de knoppen af kunt lezen.
Maar goed... al met al, niks wat niet op te lossen is met een stukje tape of beter nog een vlekje Typex (gratis life hack in deze review)
